The microsurgical course on Temporal bone dissection will have some temporal bone lab dissection every day with all the material available for a nice dissection. This dissection lab will be supervised by the organising staff with the help of two Professors coming from Bath, Dr Richard Canter and Dr Annette Jardine.

Some lectures will be interposed with the temporal bone sessions. During the morning, the delegates will have the opportunity to follow live surgeries. There are two options in this course : the first one is middle ear surgical course during the whole week, the second one is middle ear surgical course until Thursday and after Friday and Saturday is devoted to otoneurosurgery.

This year we have the honour to welcome Prof. Michel Gersdorff from Brussels who will deliver lectures on two subjects. He is a well-known otologist, recognised not only in Belgium but also overseas, he is invited in numerous meetings and congresses and all together we will be very happy to welcome him as he was one of the former International President of the G. Portmann Institute..

The second course on Functional and Radical Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a two-day course which has endoscopic dissection and all participants have a half-head for their practice and all the instrumentations necessary for the dissection. The course is performed under the direction of Professor Dominique STOLL and Docteur Philippe BOUDARD, with the help of Dr Robert SLACK from Bath and who is a well-known rhinologist. In between the anatomical dissection sessions, lectures, videos and unformal discussions will take place and everybody will find answers and explanations on the subject.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Bordeaux during these manifestations.

Report on the Course on How to TAKE care OF DEAF CHILDREN under 3 WITH OR WITHOUT AN ASSOCIATED HANDICAP

15 septembre 2006

On Friday March 17 and Saturday March 18, 2006 took place (taught in French language) the course on How to care the DEAF CHILD under 3 YEARS HAVING OR NOT ASSOCIATED HANDICAP. It was organized by Dr. Isabelle Gavilan-Cellié and Professor René Dauman, by the teams of Infant Audiology, CAMSP and Cochlear Implantation of the University Hospital of Bordeaux – Professor Bébéar’s  ENT Department – as well as by the team of JESDA “Clair de Lune” (a kindergarden specialized for deaf children with associated disorders) – Institute Richard Chapon.
This course took place in the University Victor Ségalen Bordeaux 2 and gathered 40 participants very specialized in this type of cares (ORL, audiologists, speech therapists, audioprothesists, nurses, professionals of specialized structures).
Theoretical courses, video illustrations and workshops made it possible to transmit expertises and know-hows. Workshops were devoted to the caring and the parental follow-up within the framework of conventional prosthesis, and that of cochlear implant, which is more particularly related to children with associated troubles.
One morning was devoted to the deaf child affected by associated disorders, under the supervision of the JESDA team and Mrs. Aktouche, an orthoptist low vision.
These multidisciplinary meetings are essential in order to consolidate experience sharing and to organize adapted cares - cares which are all the more significant since the installation of neonatalogy deafness detection.
This teaching will be renewed in 2007, on Friday March 16 and Saturday March 17. It will be exclusively dedicated to the very early care of the deaf infant in the immediate follow up of neonatal detection.
